Easy to use Mold Test Kit

I bought this mold test kit to test out our new home we just bought. I wanted to make sure we did not have an issue with mold and that my kids would be safe. Great for closed environments, especially with swab testing

We had residual mold from a water leak last year that we had professionally cleaned up. No mold has visually grown back but I bought these test kits just to be sure. We live in a humid, nature-dense area with windows and doors regularly open. Which really complicates mold testing because mold spores naturally live in the environment and are mostly nothing to be concerned about. The petri dishes grew a variety of molds for us. Kind of a cool science experiment to be honest. But I did find it quite difficult to distinguish which molds exactly they were. For example, we had one reddish pink one but there was no reddish pink molds in the provided booklet. Then we had a few different green ones but I found it hard to distinguish Aspergillus from Claydosporium etc. And similarly, Stachybotrys and Aureobasidium can look very similar. This can be a very helpful tool for people. But I think to be truly effective it needs to occur in a closed environment. Can't be in a room where windows and doors are regularly opened to the outdoors. Or opened at all in the 24hrs before testing. And if you have one of the molds that are difficult to distinguish, sending a sample to the lab would be your best bet.

Highly recommend

The product was easy to use and set up. Within 2 days I had visible results as expected. I took advantage of the option to reach out to the company to submit a photo review of the results, and was so pleased with the response. It was an in depth and thoroughly descriptive report. While it may not be a definitive result since you are not sending the actual plates into a lab, I had purchased the test to submit to my landlord as proof of mold. This was perfect for confirmation to them of its presence and the possible types of mold as well. Very impressed. The only thing I would suggest is that it would be nice to not have to use all six plates at once. They come vacuum sealed together and the directions indicate that once you open the seal, you have to use the plates. I only had 3 areas I needed to test, so I would have liked to have been able to save the other 3 for a later test, especially after having the mold cleaned. But aside from this, very happy with the purchase

The kit was very easy to use and the instructions were clear. I really like that it comes with six Petri dishes, so you can test different rooms or areas of the house. Everything needed for the testing is included. It’s a convenient and affordable way to get a general idea of possible mold growth in your home.
